On the 17th of September 2024, the Women's Club of Aruba (WCA) proudly celebrates its 90th anniversary—an incredible milestone that speaks to decades of dedication, resilience, and continuous commitment to serving our community. Founded on September 17th, 1934, the WCA has grown into a vital organization, working tirelessly to make a difference through volunteerism and advocacy.

It was founded on September 17, 1934 by Mrs. Lucy Smith, spouse of Mr. Lloyd G. Smith, President of Lago Oil Refinery at the time.

Women’s Club of Aruba is a multifaceted nonprofit organization dedicated to the improvement of the Community.
It was founded on September 17, 1934 by Mrs. Lucy Smith, spouse of Mr. Lloyd G. Smith, President of Lago Oil Refinery at the time.
The club’s first meeting was held on Monday, September 17th, 1934 at the Lago Clubhouse at 2:30 p.m. and had an attendance of one hundred and fifty ladies. The meeting was presided by Mrs. Lucy Lloyd G. Smith.
On October 1st of the same year the first official board was installed by the casting of ballots for the final election. The Board consisted of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer and a Secretary.
On January 28th, 1937, The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (invited the Women’s Club of Aruba to become an affiliate member. At the time The GFWC existed for almost 50 years.
On March 8th, 1937, the Women’s Club of Aruba proudly accepted the invitation. Membership Dues to be paid to the General Federation of Women’s Clubs were U.S. $ 0.10 per member. Club dues for Women’s Club of Aruba were then U.S. $ 1.00 per year per member.
On May 10th 1938, the Women’s Club of Aruba was represented for the first time at the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Annual Convention in Kansas City. The first Aruban delegate was Mrs. K. Milne.
On July 9th, 1947 a suggestion to invite the ladies of Eagle Colony and of Oranjestad to the membership was discussed. On February 3rd, 1948, the amendment to accept members outside the Lago Community as Associate Member was accepted. In the course of the years, the Associate members got the same rights as the Lago Community ladies.
Today, Women’s Club of Aruba is at the forefront of the battle to help with the less fortunate, the elderly, the physically and mentally challenged, the environment, safety awareness, drugs and alcohol abuse, AIDS awareness and prevention programs, health and cancer awareness, Domestic Violence, among others.
The Club represents various nationalities.
